Main Street Committee Model

The Four-point Approach of the Main Street Program is a comprehensive revitalization plan made up of four components. Each of these components works in conjunction to strategically solve problems in the downtown and is represented by a Main Street committee. The four committees meet on a regular basis to complete annual work plans, which are created to guide activities and provide a yardstick for measuring program success.

Design

This group works toward enhancing the physical appearance of Downtown Momence by capitalizing on its unique assets and heritage. Encouraging the rehabilitation of historic buildings and sensitive new construction are aspects of this committee. The Design Committee also works to develop strategies for streetscape and other beautification projects. This committee administers the Facade Grant Program.

Economic Restructuring

The Economic Restructuring committee works to strengthen the existing downtown business base and recruit new concerns by providing information and research, identifying opportunities for market growth, and developing financial incentives for building rehabilitation and business development. The Main Street Momence ER Committee administers the Low-interest Revolving Loan Program.

Organization

The Organization Committee focuses on recruitment and training of volunteers, communications, the annual partnership campaign and fund-raising events to ensure that Main Street Momence remains a vital organization. This committee also is charged with building consensus and cooperation among community stakeholders who have a role to play in the revitalization process. The committee works with the Board of Directors to market Main Street to prospective investors.

Promotion

The goal of the Promotion Committee is to create retail promotions, special events and a positive image of the business district that attracts residents and visitors downtown to shop, invest, recreate and socialize.
